For example, you might have heard about the incident when Dani Alves got a banana thrown at him in 2014 based on BBC.com . According to USA TODAY , police “questioned a soccer fan who was arrested after being seen on camera at Manchester City's stadium appearing to racially abuse Manchester United players by imitating a monkey.” In another example, there is an article from Italy’s frontrunning newspaper Corriere della Sera that says “Black Friday” and has two black soccer players on the cover. The cover includes soccer players Chris Smalling and Romelu Lukaku, both black players. Many people believe that this is a racist act and the writers have been criticized by the media. So, now I’ll post articles about what’s going on with our school’s sports so everyone can know more about them. In my first article, I’m going to introduce to you the basics of how our teams work and give you some advice in case you’d like to try out. DON’T FORGET THE RULES! Our school has a variety of teams such as soccer, track, girls volleyball, and girls and boys basketball. These teams are available to any grade. He plays for a great team called Real Madrid FC (a Spanish Football Team), but in August, he left Real Madrid to go to Juventus FC (an Italian Football Team). According to New York Times, this happened because the Brazilian football player Neymar wants to win the Ballon de Oro (a trophy) and the club’s president, Florentino Perez, says if Neymar wanted to win the Ballon de Oro he would have to move to Real Madrid and Ronaldo did not like that. Moreover, the club’s president and Ronaldo have problems. So, Juventus offered to take Ronaldo and they agreed to a transfer of 112 million euros. Fans have lots of feelings about this transfer. The Vegas Golden Knights, the newest team added to the National Hockey League, is blowing through the playoffs, as they destroy the Los Angeles Kings as well as the San Jose Sharks. The LA Kings and the San Jose Sharks are now eliminated from the playoffs. As for the other teams that didn’t make the playoffs, such as the New York Rangers, they are devastated. The New York Rangers haven’t missed the playoffs since 2010, until now. The much hated Pittsburgh Penguins have won the Stanley Cup two years in a row. Here’s why they are taking the early retirement. The most common reason why 70% of 13-year-olds quit playing sports at that age is because they don’t make their school’s sports teams. This leads them to think they are not good enough and to keep playing sports is not worth it anymore. This becomes an issue as they get closer to high school. HPCMS student, Sade Bell, 8th grader, explains why she quit basketball. “I didn’t like it anymore, so I stopped playing,” but she also says she might go back to playing basketball. The reason why Russia is banned from this year’s Winter Olympics is because they were caught doping again, according to CBS News and the Anti-Doping Agency. Russia has had doping problems before, and they lost 51 olympic medals because of it, which is the most medals stripped from a team because of doping scandals.  Doping is another word for taking talent-enhancement drugs in order to “improve” your strength in sports. The game was played in an empty stadium because the fans were protesting Spain’s government’s attempt to deny the vote for Catalonia to be an independent country. At 6 feet and 2 inches, Filip Chytil is the first teenager to be drafted since Manny Malhotra in 1998. Filip Chytil is from the Czech Republic. He was selected as a 21st overall draft pick in the 2017 NHL draft as a centerman, according to the New York Times. Chytil caught the Rangers’ coach, Alain Vigneault’s attention quickly when Chytil scored an overtime winning goal on the New Jersey Devils on September 20th in Madison Square Garden with an assist from Mats Zuccarello. Chytil also had two assists and one goal in only three preseason games. “Talent has no age,” said Rangers coach, Alain Vigneault, in a New York Times interview in September.
