Barcelona, Soccer and Me

Image
Bryan Chicaza Barcelona, one of the best teams in Europe, is having problems trying to win matches. It all started back on May 1st, 2019 when Barcelona played in the Champions League Semi-Final against Liverpool. Barcelona won 3-0 in an amazing performance by the whole team. Days later they played Liverpool again but, in a stadium called Anfield. Barcelona was expecting to be able to advance to the Champions League final because of their 3-0 win against Liverpool the other day. They were more confident because Liverpool had their best players injured. You would think Barcelona can win right? Wrong. Barcelona played horrible and allowed Liverpool to win 4-3. Barcelona had just got humiliated for the second year in a row. Barcelona fans were devastated most people targeted the coach Ernesto Valverde. That is where it all started going wrong for Barcelona. On May 25th, Barcelona played in the cup final and they lost the game 2-1 Barcelona got humiliated even more. Barcelona fans

Video Games: Do you think you actually know all about them?

Image
By Ilya Kreider Have you ever sat for hours there on your couch or sitting at your desk playing video games? Well, I think that most of us have. But do you actually think about the ways that these games can impact you? For starters I would like to talk about the different types of video games that are out there. The most popular one in this school is something that you may not have guessed. It turns out that the amount of people whose favorite game is Minecraft is equivalent to the amount of people who say their favorite game is Roblox. 27% of people that I asked said that Roblox was their favorite game. Then in third, you have Fortnite which I guess that you were totally not expecting. The game that had the most people watching an event in gaming history twice in a row with the Fortnite World Cup and then the End event on October 13th, you would not think would be third on the list. They had a total of 6 million people watching this past event, which is a record for the gaming commu

Recreating Extinct Creatures

Image
By Colin Canavan So, to start things off. No, it would be impossible to copy Jurassic park. Haha, I’m crushing dreams! There are too many things wrong with the process that it would just be impossible to do with dinosaurs, but we may be able to do the process to other creatures such as the mammoth or the dodo bird. Bringing Back the Mammoth The wooly mammoth is a long extinct creature that heavily resembles the modern-day elephant. Part of the reason the wooly mammoth could have gone extinct was that ancient humans hunted them to extinction. But now we are trying to bring them back. Meet Lyuba , the young wooly mammoth who lived 42,000 years ago in Siberia. Lyuba was said to have died due to choking to death in mud, isn’t that fun! Lyuba was found by some reindeer herders in 2007. But there was also another woolly mammoth who also choked to death, also in mud. The second woolly mammoth was named Khroma. Khroma was found in 2008 by mammoth ivory hunters. Khroma also lived around the

The Greatest NBA Players in 2019

Image
By Fernando Mora 2019 has been a year for basketball. There is so much competition, there are so many things happening to prove who the best player is. But who is the best player? Well, here are the top three three best basketball players in 2019, according to an expert at ESPN and me, HPCMS student - Fernando Mora. #3 Lebron James Ok, starting with number three we have Lebron James from the Los Angeles Lakers. He’s the SF (Shooting Forward) for the 2019-2020 season and his projected RPM (Real Plus-Minus) wins are: 11.3 (average on the wins in the NBA). One big question everyone is asking: How long can he keep it up? He is getting older and he is not able to do some things any more. He is 34 years old and there are people who retired when they were 30 or more, like Dwayne Wade. According to ESPN “This will happen if James keeps defying father time with some younger talent in Anthony davis and Kyle Kuzma to help. L.A should be a force. If he can’t they could have real challenges

Living on Mars?

Image
By Malcolm Mungo Have you ever wanted to live on Mars? Chances are, you have. Mars is a super cool planet, and it would be super awesome to live on a planet other than Earth. Although it may be an epic planet, its climate is very harsh and cold, with almost no oxygen. So forget about living there…unless? Once we get to Mars we may actually be able to start a civilization built on martian soil. Aside from living in glass domes up there, there may actually be a way to live on Mars without life-sustaining equipment. How is this possible though? Well, in 6th grade, we all did a massive project on Mars. This project is called Marzilization and 6th graders will be tackling this project towards the middle of the year I learned a lot about how to sustain life up there. For this project I was assigned a question I had to answer - Is it possible to terraform Mars? In other words, can we make Mars livable? Process of making Mars livable - Image from Wikipedia . If you didn’t already know, Mars h

Mind Reading Exoskeleton

By Silvestre Mora                                                         Recently, a paralyzed man named Thibault got to walk again. Thibault got paralyzed by falling off of a 40 foot balcony. He was able to walk again by having surgery that put brain sensors on his brain. Scientists made a robot that can translate his brain readings into movements to move his legs. “I hadn’t walked for two years. I had forgotten that I used to be taller than a lot of people in the room. It was very impressive,” said Thibault in a CNN interview. Over the course of the project he walked 145 meters (476 feet) in the mind reading skeleton. Since, the project is still in progress, scientists hope that they can improve the exoskeleton so that it can improve patients' lives. Scientists think that they are one step closer to only use brain signals to operate the exoskeleton. An exoskeleton is a rigid external covering for the body in some invertebrate animals, like a beetle. The exoskeleton can
