Introducing You to K-pop

K-pop short for Korean pop is a genre that is inspired by different types of genres around the world such as pop, hip hop, rock, etc. This genre has over 370 k-pop groups, but not only does this genre have groups but also soloists. These singers are called idols. How it all started K-pop first started in the year 1992 after the first group to ever debut were Seo Taiji and Boys. They released Nan Arayo (i know) their first song in 1992. This later started to gain popularity in Korea and it led to other groups’ debut. K-pop started to get popular in America when PSY released his song “Gangnam Style” back in 2013. This song started to get over 1 billion streams which helped gain a lot of American listeners. America was later introduced to a boy band called BTS. BTS started blowing up in 2015, 2 years after their debut.
