THE ADPOCALYPSE

Image
By Kimberly, Niove, and Theerada When you think about being a Youtuber there are lots of things to think about, like what your Youtube channel will be about and what you will share on it! There are also lots of challenges such as dislikes, hateful comments, getting subscribers, and many more but what we are focusing on is Youtube demonetization, but more specifically…...THE ADPOCALYPSE! What is demonetization? Demonetization is when Youtuber’s ads are taken away by Youtube and their income becomes smaller. Or if something is copyrighted like a song or other channels they can get a copyright strike, demonetizing that video. You can also be demonetized by doing something inappropriate or swearing too much. You can get demonetized from a bot or a Youtube worker. Your comments can be turned off by Youtube but you can also disable them. This isn’t technically demonetization but it’s something close to it. So What Is The Debate? Big YouTubers such as Lazerbeam and James Charles hav

Climate Change Activists Lead All Over the World

Image
By Fiona Florsheim So many people are now involved with climate change all over the world! Do you think climate activists are important? HPCMS 6th Grader, Kaitlyn Zdjelar, does. She believes they, “can take care of the world,” but not all voices and actions are heard, so I am writing to give them a chance. Mari Copeny Mari lives in Michigan and cares about her environment, specifically, water. According to Elle , when Mari was eight, she “wrote to President Barack Obama asking if he would meet with her and other citizens of Flint, Michigan,” about the water crisis happening there. The Flint Water Crisis happened when the city of Flint decided to use Flint River water because of pipeline construction. The water was very harmful, causing rashes & other horrible medical conditions like brain damage in children. President Obama did come to Michigan and met with Mari. According to Mari Copeny , she “fundraised over $500,000 with the nonprofit organization Pack your Back,” to help othe

The Discovery of Saturn’s 20 New Moons

Image
By Kevin Zamora Recently, scientists discovered 20 new moons around the second biggest planet in our solar system, Saturn, which brings the total up to 82 moons, according to the Los Angeles Times . This is very a great discovery for scientists because they will be able to better understand how moons form.   So let me explain how moons form for those who don’t know. There are many ways a moon can form. Sometimes two large pieces of rock, ice, and other space materials can collide together. The debris of these collisions can clump together to form a moon. And other times, according to National Geographic , “moons are asteroids captured into orbit by a larger body’s gravity.” (Side note, scientists actually want the public to help name these new moons which honestly seems really cool. Cool Album Covers

Image
By Tenzin Lekshey Disclaimer: these are not opinions, these are facts. They are provable with the scientific method. Artist: Czarface(group), MF Doom Album: Czarface meets MF Doom Czarface is a rap group formed in 2013 by producer 7L and rappers Esoteric and the Wu-tang clan’s Inspectah Deck. And this was the cover of their collaboration with one of the best of all time MF Doom. Their covers are in the style of the 80’s, silver age comic books. Artist: Queen Song: Bohemian Rhapsody This technically isn’t an album cover, this was the single cover for Bohemian Rhapsody. But this is just an iconic visual, and I like it, so therefore it is great. This was off Queen’s fourth album, “A Night at the Opera”, which has an okay cover. Artist: Rage Against the Machine Album: Rage against the Machine This covers shows a vietnemese monk burning himself alive in protest of the suppression of Buddhism that was happening, and I thought that was very powerful. Also, it just looks re

Petra Kvitova’s Tragic Attack that Changed her Life

Image
By Karen Perez What would a normal person do when they’re in a situation of their life if they either try to stop the attacker, give them money or just let them do whatever they want to do? In a normal situation someone would most likely scream for help, right? Well Petra Kvitova in a moment of danger she decided to test her luck and see if she was a better fighter outside than just tennis. Tuesday, in Prostejove, Czech Republic. This was the day when Petra Kvitova was brutally stabbed and in order to save her own life when attacked, with her left hand she got the knife and got it away from him. The attackers name is Radim Zondra age 33, and the court sentenced him to 8 years, which means he will come out in his early 40’s. But let’s start from the beginning. Petra Kvitova was born on March 8,1990, which means that she is currently 29. Before she was terribly hit she started her career in 2007 which means she was 17! That was extremely young, but for Kvitova didn’t let this st

Ramapo 2019

Image
By Kara Degracia Hi, I’m Kara Degracia and I am a new student joining the school blog! On October 10-11th, the 7th grade took an overnight trip to Rhinebeck, NY at Camp Ramapo for children. We did many activities there and it was an overall great first overnight school trip, for me at least. Not everyone had the same activities done, but for now I will be showing you what my experience was like in camp Ramapo! We left the school at around 8:30am and we got on coach buses. Our bags had to be stored under the bus which was a good thing because I brought a luggage. The bus ride was about 2-3 hours. We talked, had snacks, and took naps. Our bus was an all girl bus so nothing that crazy happened. I sat next to my best friend, Ima, and we had lots of fun! We arrived to the camp at around 11am. Then, the first thing we did was head straight to our cabins to just have a quick tour and set our stuff down. Afterwards, we headed right to the dining hall to have

Top 5 Marvel Movies [SPOlLER ALERT]

Image
By Farhan Ahmed As the infinity saga ended (Iron Man to Avengers: Endgame), I went to the HPCMS Library on October 17th, 2019 to ask people about their favorite Marvel movie based on the 22 movies. Here are the results I got from asking 17 people. 5th: Avengers: Infinity War (1 Vote) It is the movie everyone has been expecting since the release of Iron Man in 2008, it is the beginning of the end for the Infinity Saga; Avengers: Infinity War! Avengers: Infinity War is the movie everyone was looking forward too since the cliffhanger in Thor: Ragnarok, when Thor’s ship was taken over by Thanos’ even bigger ship, with fans eventually learning all the Asgardians are dead in the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War. The movie eventually leads up to the “blip” of half of all life in the universe dies. A truly sad ending, but not the saddest. 4th: Captain America: CiviI War (2 Votes) Captain America: Civil War is the final movie of the Captain America series. As we learn about how Bucky was al

Amazon Rainforest Fire

Image
By Sarah Bayley and Sakura Jung If you have been keeping up with the news lately you might have seen something about the Amazon rainforest fire. Now why are these fires so critical to nature? Think of it like this, the planet is the body and its forests/jungles are the lungs. If most of the “lungs” die then the “body” will die so it is important that we take care of our trees. The amazon rainforest fire does not just affect the trees, but it can cause global temperatures to rise even more than they already have. Nature has at least a third of the solution to climate change, resolving the issues linked to the heat and if the fires don't stop, then carbon dioxide will not be absorbed making global warming worse. Many animals and ecosystems are suffering because of this fire, losing vital resources crucial for them to survive. So far more than 1.8 million acres of the forest have burned and imagine how many animals have died or been injured in this fire. 6th grader Jenny Mart

Is Stranger Things Based On a True Story?

Image
By Ella Zak and Aleia Fernandez You might think that Stranger Things is just a fictional story, that it can’t possibly be true! But what if we told you that some parts of the hit show might actually be real? While the characters aren’t real and neither are demogorgons (thank goodness), there are rumors about projects that sound eerily similar to the storyline in Stranger Things. Grab some eggos, ‘cause things are about to get strange! In season one of the show, Eleven is being tested on by Mr. Brenner, who used LSDs and sensory machines to experiment on her. What's interesting is that this might be real. We’ve tracked down some of those conspiracies for you below. According to Digital Spy , a project called the MK-ultra, which was conducted in 1953 by the government and the CIA, was used to give people mind-control capability, to give the US an advantage against Russia during the Cold War. Later the project was shut down in 1956, because of the many dangers it co

Are Video Games Good Or Bad For You?

Image
By Matthew Sebastian Video games are played by many people. Video games have been around since the early 1970’s, according to How Stuff Works But the question is - are video games good or bad for you? Well, it can be both. Many people say video games are bad for you. Some parents say that video games are a waste of time and some people say that video games make people become violent. However, video games can actually be good for you.  Why Video games are Good For You Some video games can improve many skills. According to Kids Health video games can improve hand-eye coordination, problem solving skills, and the mind’s ability to process information. Another reason video games can be good is because it helps with decision making. According to GAME DESIGNING, Shawn Green from the University of Rochester had two groups and they each played a game. One group played an action game and one played a strategy game. After he studied them he said, “Action video games are fast-paced, and
