Hitler had blamed the Jewish people for the loss of Germany in WWI and was sending them into concentration camps that would kill or gas Jewish people upon arrival. Seeing this happen, some countries decided to stop Germany by declaring war on them. Later on, the United States would declare war on Germany along with the Soviet Union who would change sides after Germany had tried to invade them.  On the Axis side, Germany, Soviet Union (USSR) Italy & Japan.  Concentration Camps Not many people survived the concentration camps. Out of the 6 million people who died in them, half of the people were Jewish. The deadliest camp was Auschwitz, located in southern Poland. (Poland was under German rule at the time.) Government When the old Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez died of cancer in 2013, the Vice President, Nicolas Maduro become president. In 2018, he won an election to become president but the people in Venezuela didn’t want him anymore because many feel Maduro is corrupted. So, a congress meeting was held to decide if they should get rid of Maduro and the representives from different countries in the congress said yes - they wanted to replace Maduro with the Venezuelan politician, Juan Guido. But Maduro didn't want to go. Also, he has the military backing him up, so it is tricky to take him out. Maduro even blocked the border of Colombia and Brazil so aid couldn’t enter the country. Let’s start with the reason the US government shut down in the first place. Congress passes a bill that is used to fund many government projects. One of the projects President Trump wants is a wall built along the border of Mexico and the Democrats refuse to fund it, so Congress couldn’t pass a budget bill. When Congress cannot agree on the budget, the government does not have any money to keep it running. The result is a government shutdown. In January, Trump said that if democrats don't fund the wall, he would shut down the government down until they did, which is a very complicated decision for the Democrats. By Gabriel Alarcon, Destiny Dimitrova and Cara Marie Giardina Long Island City - There are countless people affected by the five hurricanes that hit between August and October of 2017 - namely Maria, Harvey, Irma, Jose, and Nate - and some of those affected are students and staff at this school. In fact, out of the 60 students we surveyed, 56% reported that they have been directly affected by the hurricanes. When we started the school year, Hurricane Harvey had already destroyed Houston, Texas. Nine trillion gallons of water rained down on the city. This is about the size of fourteen million Olympic-sized swimming pools according to Quartz . This forced thirty thousand people to evacuate and move. In our first week of school, Hurricane Irma tore through the Caribbean. Shortly after, it was followed by Hurricane Maria which destroyed Puerto Rico and neighboring islands.
