Xbox VS Playstation VS Nintendo VS Sega - Which Console is Better? (HPCMS Students Take a Survey)

One of the biggest debates in gaming is Xbox vs Playstation. But there was another big one during 1980-1990 that many don't know about today: Nintendo vs SEGA. Today, we compare these 4 console companies. 

The new Xbox series X and Playstation 5 are new Next-Gen consoles. These consoles have amazing graphics, and for the first time, consoles can run on 120Hz. This is amazing for gamers because it's a huge upgrade and some games can run way better. Right now, it sounds like there’s no difference, but there is a big difference in many aspects.

Statistically speaking, Xbox consoles handle better than Playstation consoles. They have better specs, such as the SD drive and the CPU. But, that doesn't mean more sales. The PS2 and the original Xbox came out at around the same time. The original Xbox had better specs than the PS2 but the PS2 had almost 7x more sales than the Xbox (PS2 sales: 160m. Xbox sales: 24m). This was because the PS2 had way more games than the Xbox. (According to vgchartz.com), as of Oct 27 2022, 6,796,311 more PS5s than Xbox series X/S have been sold. 

It is also very hard to get your hands on a ps5. It is a long process to get one that many do not want to go through. Even though it's been 2 years since the PS5 and Xbox Series X launch, Both consoles are really hard to get. The Xbox Series S is the little brother to the Series X. (Series S price: $300. Series X price: $500). It costs $200 less, and doesn't get as many sales.  While you cannot get any of the 3 consoles in store, the Series X and PS5 are barely in stock on shopping websites. But the Series S is always in stock, due to the low demand of it.

One debate most people don't know about is Nintendo vs SEGA. It used to be a very big debate. Most people have forgotten about it but they had a console war back in 1980-1990.

 Now, SEGA stopped making their consoles and their last one was the SEGA Dreamcast. At this moment, SEGA is known for making tons of sonic games, cartoons, and movies. Their newest game is Sonic: Frontiers, and their newest movie is Sonic The Hedgehog 2. 

Now, Nintendo is known for their new powerful Nintendo Switch. While it is not as powerful as the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, It is one of the most popular consoles at 114m sales. Unlike Xbox and Playstation, Nintendo consoles are made for family and not one person to play.

Results of the War



This shows that 7th graders at HPCMS love PlayStation the most. Nintendo is a close second, Sony (Playstation) won this war. This war also shows that specs on a console don't matter. Xbox has better specs than both the switch and PS5, but Sony and Nintendo have both beaten Xbox.

Who are the Consoles meant for?


It may be obvious for which type of gamer each console is meant for. Nintendo used to focus on the power of the console. When the gamecube was released, it was much more powerful than the Nintendo 64. But when the Wii was released, it was only 50% more powerful. However, It was the most sold console for its generation, having over 100 million sales. For example, the PS3 was 29x more powerful than the PS2. 

The reason the Wii had such high sales was because of its unique controller, amazing games, and it was mostly meant for family. Before the Wii, every console focused on entertaining one single person. But with the Wii, you can play Wii sports with your whole family. Oh yeah, did I mention that Wii Sports came with the console? Most people didn't even buy games, they just played Wii sports. This trend of having games meant for family carried onto the Nintendo Switch.

The controller of the Wii was basically a TV remote. Which fit the casual gamer very well because they didn't have to get used to using a game controller. 

The Playstation consoles are meant for one person playing a story game alone, or playing a shooter with one of your friends. Many story games are really popular such as: God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon Forbidden West/ Zero Dawn, Etc. Many shooters are popular like Fortnite, Call of Duty, Apex Legends, etc. Most, if not all shooters are available on Xbox, Playstation and PC.

The Xbox has popular games like NBA 2K, Overwatch 1&2, Minecraft, Fortnite, Apex Legends, and GTA 5. You can actually play all of these most popular games on Playstation and PC, Which is a problem for Xbox since they do not have many exclusives. You can play a lot of the Xbox “exclusives” on your computer using gamepass. Even phones and tablets can play these games using Xbox Cloud Gaming. Overall, The Xbox is meant for people who want to play cross platform games on their console.

The console war has ended and that makes Sony our winner.

The Downside of School Dress Codes for Female Students

By Briana Naranjo  Every school has a dress code students must follow. But some of those dress codes are out of line when it comes to what girls wear. For girls, there are a lot of school dress codes that dictate how much thigh and how much shoulder they are allowed to show. Many schools have these dress codes so the students dress “modestly,”  which is understandable to a certain extent. However, many school dress codes focus only on what the girls wear and never focus on what boys wear. This has started major outrage from students, as this is an unfair system and should be changed.    Shirts that show collarbones and shoulders are said to be too “distracting” for the boys and are not “appropriate” for the learning environment. Disney Channel Character from “Andi Mack” comes out as gay, and other LGBT characters.

Here are my thoughts and feelings about it. Andi Mack is a Disney Channel show about tweens going through middle school. Starring Peyton Elizabeth Lee as Andi Mack, Andi Mack is turning 13 when her older sister Bex returns home. Andi goes through her teenage life, with the help of her family and her friends Cyrus and Buffy, on top of coping with the discovery that Bex is actually her mother and that her mother Celia “Cece” is actually her grandmother, and managing her crush on classmate Jonah Beck. While another one of Andi’s friends, Cyrus, also has a crush on Jonah. So, in the show Cyrus comes out as gay. Gay is the G in LGBTQ+. LGBTQ+ stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and the plus stands for other sexualities/genders including but not limited to Pensexual, Asexual, and Intersex.
