The Sumatran tiger is an amazing animal and it deserves to live on.

The Sumatran tiger is critically endangered. There are only about four-hundred in the wild right now! This tiger is well known because of of their big black stripes on their orange fur. They are also the smallest tiger subspecies. This tiger subspecies is about 165-308 pounds (74.8427-139.706 kilograms). The Sumatran tiger lives in tropical broadleaf evergreen forests, freshwater swamp forests and and peat swamps. The Sumatran tiger lives on the island of Sumatra which is in Indonesia.

The first reason why the Sumatran tiger is critically endangered is because of poaching. Because of all this poaching this amazing animal could go extinct, fifty a year. According to the New York Times, the Sumatran tiger is going extinct because of poaching. “Only about 500 to 600 Sumatran tigers still live in the wild, and poaching is reducing the number by 50 a year.” According to World Wildlife, poaching is still a problem and the Sumatran tiger’s population is declining. “Sumatran tigers are losing their habitat and prey fast, and poaching shows no sign of decline.”

Another very big factor in the Sumatran tiger’s peril is deforestation. Humans are cutting down forests and by doing that they are destroying the Sumatran tiger’s habitat, according to World Wildlife.“Accelerating deforestation and rampant poaching mean this noble creature could end up like its extinct Javan and Balinese relatives,” which means the Sumatran tigers population is decreasing. Think about it this way: what is more important, building a shopping center or a town or preventing a wonderful creature (that helps main the population of deer to a normal level) from going extinct?

Sumatran tigers are amazing animals and humans need to make sure that they do not go extinct. Sumatran tigers maintain the amount of deer and wild pigs by eating them so that their population doesn’t become very big.

In conclusion, Sumatran tigers need to live on and humans are the only ones that can make sure that happens.
