All About Global Warming and Pollution

The world is becoming more and more polluted and warmer by the minute, but why?
Let's start with pollution. In the picture above with all the trash cans in a lake you can imagine how horrible pollution is for the environment. By throwing so much garbage in lakes, ponds and seas we are making pollution and global warming at the same time and by polluting we are minimizing the amount of oxygen in the air.

There is basically only one way to think about this, nature gave and still gives us so many things we need to survive and and we are repaying nature by destroying it. According to the site World Wildlife, pollution is destroying forests, plants and making humans sick. “Pollution may muddy landscapes, poison soils and waterways, or kill plants and animals. Humans are also regularly harmed by pollution. Long term exposure to air pollution, for example, can lead to chronic respiratory disease, lung cancer and other diseases.” This proves that humans aren’t only destroying nature, they are also hurting themselves.

Now, as I said before, pollution is making animals, humans and plants sick. By making plants (like apple trees, orange trees, potato plants, etc…) sick, the amount of food that plant makes might be smaller than usual or, it might taste bad. The same thing happens with animals, domestic or wild.

Now we’re moving to a different topic - global warming. You might think that global warming isn’t important at all but the truth is, global warming is just as important as pollution. Nature also helps get rid of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. According to World Wildlife, humans are destroying forests and by doing that, all the carbon dioxide that is trapped in the trees, escapes. “Plants play an important role in regulating the climate because they absorb carbon dioxide from the air and release oxygen back into it. Forests and bushland act as carbon sinks and are a valuable means of keeping global warming to 1.5°C.” Also according to Quartz the ice in Greenland and Antarctica is melting really fast and it’s bad for the people that live there and for the ocean. “It’s been a bad week for ice. Last Tuesday, researchers announced that the Eastern Antarctic Ice Shelf--previously, thought to be stable or even growing--is actually melting alarmingly fast. And yesterday (Jan 21), a new study found that southwest Greenland--another area where ice is supposed to be safe--is dumping more meltwater into the ocean than any other region of the icy island.” This is happening because of global warming and if it doesn’t get stopped it won’t be good for the people that live in Greenland.

A big factor of global warming is burning fossil fuels. We burn fossil fuels for a lot of things. Some of those things include: creating electricity and powering cars. According to Worldwildlife burning fossil fuels is a main cause of pollution and global warming and there is a way we can address it. It states: “Reducing the amount of electricity generated from coal and gas, and increasing the amount of electricity from clean, renewable energy sources like solar and wind, means less carbon pollution is emitted. This is one of the main ways we can address global warming.” By getting power from the sun by using solar panels, the amount of fossil fuels that are being burnt is smaller so, there is less pollution and less global warming.

In conclusion, global warming and pollution are very real things and we have to stop them. I really hope that you enjoyed this article and if you know someone that is polluting the environment, tell them to stop for the Earth’s health and their health.
