6ix9ine

By Jose Rios
Daniel Hernandez, known by his stage name 6ix9ine was born on May 8, 1996 in Bushwick, Brooklyn to a Mexican mother (from Atlixco) and a Puerto Rican father. He was raised by both his mother and father until the age of 13 and grew up alongside his brother. In 2009, his father was murdered one block away from his house which led him to working in various jobs to support his family. 6ix9ine was expelled from school in 8th grade in part because of the death of his father.

6ix9ine gained popularity in late 2017 when he released his debut single Gummo. The song placed number 12 on the US Billboard “Hot 100” and was certified platinum. In early 2018, 6ix9ine released his debut mixtape, Day69, which placed in number four on the “Billboard 200” album chart. Later on that year, he collaborated with Nicki Minaj on “FEFE” which also made it on Billboard Hot 100. After this, he released “BEBE” with Anuel AA in Spanish also in Billboard Hot 100. 6ix9ine so far has 10 songs released and all ten are in Billboard Hot 100.

Even though 6ix9ine has a lot of success he also a lot of people who hate on him, one being another rapper called Trippie Redd who he made a song with called “Poles 1469”. This all started after 6ix9ine was accused of abusing an underage woman and Trippie Redd did not like the idea of him being his friend so that is why Trippie started the drama.

In another incident, 6ix9ine was jumped by two people after his car got hit by another car from behind. The drivers kidnapped him, and took him to his house and stole $750,000 worth of jewelry and between $15,000 and $20,000 in cash money. 6ix9ine was subsequently hospitalized.

One of 6ix9ine’s newest songs is “STOOPID” featuring Bobby Shmurda who recored the song from jail. So far this song has over 72 million views on Youtube and is now currently in 48th place on Billboard Hot 100. This was impressive because not only did Bobby Shmurda make a surprise return, but also because when Bobby Shmurda raps in the song he sings from a jail phone. Bobby has been in jail since 2016 and was sentenced to jail for seven years for murder and gun charges.

Even though 6ix9ine is doing well in the rap community, he was in court because, as mentioned before, the police and the FBI have accused him of abusing an under age women. 6ix9ine ended up winning his case and the charges were dropped. After the trial, he went to a restaurant to celebrate with his friend and while they were there another person in the restaurant shot one of his bodyguards.

6ix9ine is obviously blowing up and is having success in the rapping culture. But even though he is having success he is also having trouble not only with the police but with other rappers. Another way that he is struggling is that he is currently in jail which is a bad thing but even though he is in jail he still dropped his new album “Dummy Boy” which has potential to be another great project by his part.
